Do you really think Saddam Hussein will step down and seek exile to avoid Iraq from being annihilated by the US-UK forces (presumably you can't call it a UN force)? I really doubt it. I think he'll fight to the finish and will do everything possible to ensure he doesnt get captured. Real dictators don't go away just like that. Adolf Hitler didn't surrender, did he?

But it is also sick to see the daily statements from the US blatantly ignoring the UN weapons inspectors' recommendations/decisions. If they were never going to abide by the UN's decisions, why did the US agree to the weapons inspection team in the first place? Why can't the US pay up the trillions of dollars of debt it owes the UN? Surely if it does not pay up, the other permanent members of the UNSC must move to strip the US off its veto powers.

    Politics and Cricket

The Finance Minister Jaswant Singh has announced that all prize money won by individual players as well as the Indian team at the ICC Cricket World Cup would be exempted from Income Tax. There're a couple of things to note here. The announcement was made the day after India beat Pakistan. India are just through to the next round, and are 5 games away from winning the World Cup. So obviously it is the government's way of rewarding Sourav and his boys for defeating the "old enemy". This decision has to be protested.

Why should they get income tax exemptions? There're thousands of other people in the country who slog it out daily to bring in money, fame etc. for India. Why not them? Various governments in the past have gone out of their way to ensure that the cricketers are able to bring in cars/prizes etc. without paying duty. Last I checked none of these cricketers had grown horns. Why the special treatment for them alone? Even if the government wanted to fete them, it should have waited until they returned with the prize they're actually playing for, and that is NOT the result v Pakistan.
